My Car Cleaning Experience at Auto Finesse

As a proud Porsche 992 GT3 owner, I’ve always enjoyed keeping my car clean. But deep down, I knew there was more to proper car care than just a quick wash at the weekend. So, I decided to take things to the next level and booked a full day with the team at Auto Finesse to learn how to look after my pride and joy the right way. This is my car cleaning experience, and what a difference it made.

From the moment I pulled up to the Auto Finesse Detailing Academy, I knew I was in for something special. The place oozes passion for car care and detailing – it’s not just a workspace, it’s a place where car culture and craftsmanship collide.

I’d followed the brand for a while, admired their products, and had always been impressed by the results other enthusiasts were achieving. But I wanted hands-on guidance. I wanted to understand every stage of the process – what to use, how to use it, and why. My car cleaning experience wasn’t just about making my GT3 look great for the day – it was about learning a process I could take home and repeat properly every time.

The first step of my car cleaning experience was all about the wheels – and rightly so. I’ve always tackled them last in the past, but the team explained that starting with wheels avoids the risk of spraying grime and brake dust back onto freshly cleaned paintwork later on.

Because my Porsche GT3 runs carbon ceramic brakes, the team also explained the importance of using the right product. Reactive iron removers can cause damage to the delicate components of carbon ceramics, so instead, we went with Imperial Wheel Cleaner – a much gentler yet highly effective solution that’s safe for sensitive brake setups. Applied with detailing brushes and worked into the barrels, it removed the built-up brake dust and road grime with ease, leaving a flawless finish without compromising the hardware.

Next in my car cleaning experience came the pre-wash stage. We used Citrus Power on the lower panels and grime-heavy areas, followed by Avalanche Snow Foam to safely break down dirt across the rest of the vehicle. I’d seen snow foam in action online, but watching it cling and slowly drip off my own car while lifting grime from the surface was something else. It was clear just how important this stage is in preventing swirls and fine scratches later in the process.

I’ll be honest – I’d heard of the two-bucket method before but had never bothered with it. But during my car cleaning experience, I saw just how vital it really is. Using Lather Car Shampoo and the Ultra Plush Wash Mitt, I worked top to bottom, rinsing in a separate bucket after each panel. The difference was immediately noticeable – cleaner panels, no dragging grit, and a safer way to wash.

Another eye-opener during my car cleaning experience was learning how to dry the car properly. I’d previously used a chamois or just let the car air dry – neither of which do the paint any favours. Using the Silk Drying Towel made the job effortless, absorbing water without leaving streaks or scratches. It felt like a small change, but it made a big difference to the finish.

To finish off the exterior, we used Finale Quick Detailer – a brilliant way to boost gloss and remove any light water spotting or residue from the wash. It added a deep, rich glow to the GT3’s paintwork, and gave it that freshly detailed look you normally only get from a show car.

Before this, I didn’t give much thought to interior care – but my car cleaning experience changed that completely. We used Total Interior Cleaner to wipe down every surface, followed by Spritz Interior Detailer for a clean, matte finish and subtle scent. Everything felt fresh and showroom-ready again, and I’ve now added interior care to my regular routine.

It’s one thing to use great products – but understanding how and why to use them properly makes all the difference. That’s what this day gave me. I left not just with a gleaming GT3, but with real knowledge and confidence to maintain that finish on my own terms.

What stood out the most during my car cleaning experience at Auto Finesse was how much attention goes into every detail. Nothing was rushed, nothing was generic – everything had a purpose, and every step added to the final result.
